Les Vigilantes
As far-right groups across the world attack women's rights, more and more women are embracing reactionary ideologies. From Giorgia Meloni to Marine Le Pen to tradwives, why do women choose to support policies that run counter to their interests? How do they invest in these movements, and what do they reveal about our social organization? Drawing on seminal work in the human sciences and pop culture references from Desperate Housewives to Bonnie & Clyde and Twilight, Léane Alestra examines the links between capitalism, racism and normative heterosexuality, revealing that women are not content simply to soften or modernize the image of the far right: they are its keystone. Between political theory and gender issues, she analyzes how feminist struggles are hijacked for the purposes of identity. She urges us to abandon vigilance, which locks us into a logic of security, and replace it with genuine attention to others, the only way to defuse the traps of fascism.
